Helpful Hints for Basketball Nationals 2016

  • If you aren't following NCHC on social media or haven't signed up for their emails, you should. An email went out today asking that every team share the following link. http://www.nchclive.com/index.php?option=com_phocadownload&view=category&id=19
  • It has a link to the venue map for the week, schedule highlights, and a link to the brackets. Be sure you have a venue map in your car and in your bag. If you're like us, you'll lose at least one copy during the week. (There will be a map in the book and packet info you get from registration as well.)
  • The schedule highlights is new this year. But, it seems to be a great way to know what's going on the big stage for the week.
  • Don't print the brackets until they say they are final. And then, still check online throughout the week. Locations and times change. But, it's nice to keep a copy of the brackets for the teams you're interested in to keep up with how their doing throughout the week.
  • Don't forget to sign in when you get to town or have someone sign your player in.
  • Be sure to have cell phone numbers of other families on your team. It is a very busy week. We'll all be needing to help or be helped along the way!
  • Be patient with the hotel staff. This is a very busy week for them. Both hotels add staff to help the week go smoothly. They try very hard to work with our requests. But, last minute changes are difficult.
  • Laundry: Don't forget detergent, laundry basket or big garbage bags for clothes, if you plan to wash. Some parents bring enough clothes for the week and then bring Dawn/Palmolive/etc. to wash uniforms in the sink. The hotels usually have washer/dryer (Lamplight has 1 that is free. Hampton has one that costs $1.25 or so a load.), but be sure to have quarters. There are laundry mats close by, too. Be sure to bring extra hangers if you'll be air drying your uniforms/socks. It's a lot easier to air dry them on hangers - IMO.
  • Both hotels have an indoor pool. Please supervise your children at the pool.
  • Sharpie magic markers: Every player gets a Nationals tshirt with their registration. The kids like to sign each others shirts.
  • Gatorade/Water/Water bottles for the games
  • Stadium cushions or chairs: The seats get harder every day!!!! Especially if you go to a lot of the other teams' games. Please support all the Nighthawk teams. All the teams need a big cheering section.
  • Please try to go to some of the older teams' games if you have younger children. You'll get to know other Nighthawk families and experience "team spirit" like you've not had the opportunity to all year. Plus you'll get to see first hand how great our upper level coaches are! Games are free. Our varsity team would love to have your support. Please come! Bring signs, noise makers, or pom poms and a lot of black/red clothes!
  • There is a Steak N Shake in the between the Lamplighter and the Hampton. Bring your coupons!
  • Walmart is pretty close to the hotel. We usually take all these things with us but you can always buy after you get there. There is also an Aldi's and a Sam's nearby.
  • Do not leave valuables in your cars at the hotels. Several cars have been broken into in years past. Please be careful. Players of all ages should never be alone roaming between or in the hotels.
  • Parents may be asked to sign a form at check-in acknowleding the hotel's rules for minors on the property. Please discuss these with your children.
  • A pizza party is being planned for Thursday night. Watch for more information on this next week and please be ready to help to make it happen.
BE SURE TO BRING YOUR UNIFORMS!! :) Praying for safe travels for everyone! Get ready to have a wonderful week together! GO NIGHTHAWKS!!!!
